Subject: Bishop's Days on the District

Good day,

The first day for our Bishop Dan Schwerin, as assigned Bishop of our Northern Illinois Conference, was January 1. He looks forward to being in ministry with you in Northern Illinois. He is working diligently to learn who and where you are and believes a good way to do this is to meet with clergy and laity in our individual districts.

The District Superintendents have planned the Bishop’s Days on the District which will provide time for introductions, reflection, and conversation in each district.

Bishop Schwerin will visit our Prairie Central District on Thursday, February 9. You are personally invited to join in a time of introduction, reflection, and conversation with our Bishop.

We will be meeting with clergy and laity separately for these conversations. Clergy will assemble at 9:30 am with fellowship at Naperville: Grace UMC (300 E. Gartner Road, Naperville, IL). We will then gather for a time of worship, bible study, and dialogue together. Our time together will conclude as we break bread together in the sharing of lunch. During the afternoon, I will present the district to Bishop Schwerin. The day will end with a laity gathering, including an evening conversation at 7:00 pm at Elgin: Journey of Hope UMC (37W040 Highland Avenue, Elgin, IL).

Registration for the clergy gathering is available here.
Registration numbers will be used to ensure we have enough space and lunch for all.

The Bishop's Days on the District will be held on the following dates and locations:

  • Prairie Central - Thursday, February 9
Clergy: Naperville: Grace UMC - 300 E. Gartner Road, Naperville, IL
Laity: Elgin: Journey of Hope UMC (7:00 pm) - 37W040 Highland Avenue, Elgin, IL
  • Prairie North - Wednesday, February 8
Clergy: Rockford: Christ UMC - 4509 Highcrest Rd, Rockford IL
Laity: Freeport: Harmony UMC (6:00 pm) - 2600 W Pearl City Road, Freeport, IL
  • Lake North - Monday, February 13
Clergy: Chicago: Olivet UMC - 147 S Keeler, Chicago, IL
Laity: Glenview UMC (7:00 pm) - 727 Harlem Ave, Glenview, IL
  • Prairie South - Wednesday, February 15

Clergy: Hinsdale UMC - 945 S Garfield Ave, Hinsdale, IL
Laity: Palos UMC (7:00 pm) - 12101 S. Harlem Avenue, Palos Heights, IL

I encourage you to join in the gathering for our district, but should the one planned for our district not work for you; any gathering can be attended.

Please share this information with your congregation(s). The Bishop looks forward to meeting as many brothers and sisters as possible as he travels through the different districts. Registration is not needed for the laity gathering.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I’m looking forward to having Bishop Schwerin in our district.

Thank you,
Rev. Jeffry Bross
